Ishva Mehta is a high school student on a quest to combat illiteracy in schools through her global nonprofit organization, Write & Co.

At the age of 16, Ishva founded Write & Co, a cause-driven, movement-working organization to shatter the socioeconomic gap in education.

Schools and children from low socioeconomic backgrounds do not have access to resources available to their counterparts from high socioeconomic backgrounds. Such schools have very high drop out rates, often times lack of teaching faculty at hand, and little to no amenities and resources.

Ishva believes that education is a fundamental right and everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status, sex, race, or religion has the right to free quality education- which is why she created Write & Co.

Write & Co creates and donates quality educational worksheets to underfunded schools and organizations across the world and hosts free literacy workshops across the US.

In the 21st century, education enables upward socioeconomic mobility, is the key to escaping poverty, and helps ensure ones safety and security for the present and the future (from Write & Co's website).

Write & Co has three main programs:

Literacy Workshops: They believe in empowering and enabling through education and one of the best ways to spread our mission is by actively spreading literacy. They enable teens across the US to host free literacy workshops in immigrant-based/low-income communities.

Resource Donations: They donate worksheets, resources, and educational activities to underfunded rural elementary schools and NGOs with similar goals to incorporate in their school’s curriculum. If you are/know a school/organization that would like to work with Write & Co, please email them to set up resource donations.

Self-Help Groups: In rural villages, women usually sell handicraft items to make money. Usually, these women are not educated and not skilled at managing finances. Hence, they are generally exploited by moneylenders. Write & Co helps these women form self-help groups, learn math, and ultimately, be financially independence.

In India, several public schools cannot afford to train their teachers or supply students with quality educational content.

Through Write & Co, Ishva has helped create curriculum for and donated worksheets to underfunded slum-area schools in India. They have supplied worksheets in regional languages, Math, English, Science, and Social Studies.

Write & Co has also produced easy-to-follow educational videos in regional languages to aid students at home. Her work through Write & Co has been featured on createHER collective, a digital community of female entrepreneurs and change makers in the US.

Write & Co has accumulated a following of over five hundred, and has expanded to publishing monthly research articles as well.

To date, through Write & Co, Ishva has created over one hundred worksheets for elementary school children in slum-area schools in Mumbai. Through activism work, advocacy, and research, through Write & Co, Ishva wants to combat illiteracy. Write & Co’s digital presence has led them to build meaningful partnerships with many other similar organizations and NGOs in and outside of India as well.
