kyra variyavaRight from the small stresses in sandpits at six years old to the not-so-small stresses of the SATs, the one constant for Kyra was writing. Be it expressing her own personal experiences through writing songs, emphatic speeches in a Model UN or even addressing vital issues in her city through her website, Letters to Bombay, she chooses to use her words in hopes to make an impact about a plethora of problems that the world grapples with. Being privileged enough in a world where she can express her views when millions of people do not, she wants to give a voice to the voiceless in whatever little way she can.

christopher turnerTransitioning from a majority-minority elementary school to a mainly white Magnet middle school, at a young age, I realized the inequality in my city and was always passionate about fixing it. Eventually it lead me to advocacy, in which, I’ve joined model UN, UNICEF club, and speech and debate, I’ve spent my time in debate specifically advocating for black rights through the works of Afro pessimism and the field of anti-blackness. Overall, I hope that through my work, Black and Queer youth will have a platform to speak about their struggles navigating through society.
